How to Spot Genuine Spare Parts

16 October 2026

The packaging is the first tell. Genuine parts arrive in sealed, labelled boxes with part numbers that match manufacturer catalogues. Printing should be crisp, with batch codes and manufacturer markings — not blurred ink on flimsy cardboard. Weight and finish matter too. A genuine brake pad or sprocket feels substantial in the hand; castings are clean and machining marks are uniform. Counterfeit sprockets often have uneven teeth that wear chains prematurely, and fake filters use glue that dissolves in fuel vapour. Price is the final clue. If a part is dramatically cheaper than the market rate, it is almost certainly counterfeit — and the cost of an engine failure far outweighs the saving. Japanese Bike Depot sources directly through trusted import channels and inspects every batch. When in doubt, bring your old part to our showroom and our technicians will help you compare before you buy.
